Open Enrollment
English Language Requirement

UCSB requires that all students, including those in Open Enrollment, have a satisfactory command of the English language. If you wish to participate in the Open Enrollment Program and English is not your native language, you must show proof that you have one of the following, or an equivalent:

  • Institutional TOEFL® 550, CBT TOEFL® 213
  • iBT TOEFL® score recommendation: 80
  • TOEIC® 750
  • IELTS® 6.5
  • Cambridge Certificate of Advanced English (CAE®)
  • Business English Certificate (BEC®) Higher Level

Completion of English language courses at other UC campuses may also be accepted as proof of proficiency.

If such proof cannot be provided, please contact UCSB Extension at (805) 893-4162 to make an appointment with the Open Enrollment manager to explore your options. For a fee, you may choose to have us perform an English language skills evaluation for you.
