The following services are determined based on individual need and are available upon request:
    • Assistance with registration
    • Sign language interpreters, readers, and note-takers
    • Facilitation of access to program sites
    • Special parking
    • Test-taking accommodations
    • Access to special adaptive equipment in Room 1591 at the UCSB Library including a scanner that converts text to voice, a computer screen audio reader, a text magnifier, and a computer screen enlarger.

For access to Room 1591, contact Mitchell Whitten at (805) 893-2668 to arrange a tour and orientation. Students must be officially enrolled and have met with UCSB Extension’s Disability Services representative before access is given.
  • Procedures for All Students Requesting Services

The following steps must be followed in order to be considered for disability services:

Step 1:As early as possible, but at least three weeks before any instruction begins, call the Disability Services representative at UCSB Extension (see below) to discuss your needs and to set up an appointment. You must set up the appointment to meet within 10 days of the initial call. Requests to meet with the representative that are received later than two weeks before instruction begins may limit our ability to provide you with the requested services in time for the first day of class.

Step 2: Send the representative the following documents in time for the meeting:

    • A written request outlining your needs and describing the limitations you have because of a disability covered under the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990
    • Written notification on official letterhead from a physician, certified specialist, professional counselor, or appropriate school official verifying your disability and outlining any need for special services.
  • Step 3: Meet with the representative. At this time, the representative will confirm your request and outline a plan for providing you with services, including establishing a time line for when services will begin. If you have not already submitted the documents requested in Step 2, please bring them with you to the meeting. Space in UCSB courses cannot be determined until after the quarter begins. In addition, you must obtain and complete an Open Enrollment Authorization Form, have it signed by the appropriate campus authorities, returned to the Disabilities Services representative, and pay all fees at the main UCSB Extension office before services can begin.
