Open Enrollment

UCSB Extension does not grant degrees, nor are degrees awarded through Open Enrollment. However, credits earned in Open Enrollment courses may be applied to degree programs at UCSB provided all policies and procedures (including petitions) are adhered to as stated in the UCSB General Catalog (www.catalog.ucsb.edu) and the UCSB Schedule of Classes (www.registrar.ucsb.edu/soc.htm). If you are seeking a degree at another university, you are urged to verify acceptability of UCSB Extension credit through consultation with your own college program advisor prior to enrollment at UCSB Extension. Students participating in the Open Enrollment Program do not receive priority for formal admission to UCSB, nor does Open Enrollment constitute admission to the University of California. If you are interested in earning a degree from UCSB, contact the Office of Admissions on campus for application procedures and deadlines. Records for Open Enrollment course work are permanently maintained by UCSB Extension. Courses taken through the Open Enrollment Program are recorded with the course number prefix of “XSB” on UCSB Extension transcripts. UCSB Extension does not assign grade points or calculate a grade point average for Open Enrollment courses. Transcript records for Open Enrollment course work are not sent to UCSB’s Registrar or Office of Admissions automatically; all transcripts must be formally requested in writing by the student from UCSB Extension (please see Transcripts for transcript request procedures and fees). Note: If you become a matriculated student (or if you have already been a matriculated student), UCSB will average grades for UCSB Open Enrollment courses taken fall 2000 or thereafter into your UCSB grade-point average. If you are planning to become a UCSB student, you should note that your grades in UCSB Open Enrollment courses will be considered in your application, and poor performance may hinder your admission. Courses taken through Open Enrollment do not count toward UCSB’s academic residency requirements. |
